The astounding simplicity of this idea, and the inability of so many to grasp it, compels me to to reblog it, and to urge you to do the same.

Dodgy Telstra sales practices
Telstra are vying for my number 1 most loathed company on account of the continual harassment from them on my mobile phone and borderline-abusive behaviour from their telemarketers.
For about a week while I was on “parental leave” I would get at least one phone call every other day from Telstra saying that they wanted my number back.
No.
“But you get a free 3G phone”
Don’t want it.
“But it’s really nice. And free.”
Pretty happy with my Motorola F3, thanks.
“You don’t understand, it’s a really good deal!”
I’m hanging up now. Bye.
“Sir! If I could just explain furth…”

New Brisbane Public Transport Fares
From August 8 there are new fares on Brisbane’s Translink public transport network.
The biggest news is that Go Card users now receive at least 20% off each trip compared to the same paper ticket price. Previously, single Go Card trips cost the same amount as paper tickets with a complicated Frequent User scheme giving rolling discounts after six trips in any Monday-Sunday period. The FU scheme gave the same equivalent price to a weekly paper ticket though a weekly paper ticket was arguably more flexible.
The Frequent User scheme is now in place but it only kicks in after ten trips Monday-Sunday. With the default 20% discount, the using a Go Card Monday-Friday is now the same price as a weekly paper ticket with the added incentive of discounted bus or train travel on weekends.
Now, if only the gates at Central Station weren’t so slow to open…
Dear Lazy Tumblr (2)
[Because this worked so well the last time, I figured I’d try again.]
Suppose I wanted to enable disqus comments on only some of my posts (or, if you like, only some of my post types, eg text only) and then only some of the time.
Here is what I imagine the behaviour to be:
- write a new text post
- tag is with “commentsenabled”
- comments are enabled
Text posts that don’t have comments enabled are ordinary text posts without comments.
I’ve had a brief look at the tagsasclasses functionality and, awesome as it is, it seems that it only really supports differential styling, not differential functionality. Of course, I could be totally wrong on that.
Is this even possible?
Differentially yours,
Ben
Scientists find bugs that eat waste and excrete petrol
Genetically engineered bacteria excrete crude oil. Awesome.
Because crude oil (which can be refined into other products, such as petroleum or jet fuel) is only a few molecular stages removed from the fatty acids normally excreted by yeast or E. coli during fermentation, it does not take much fiddling [with their genetic code] to get the desired result.

Frassati body arrives in Sydney
It is the first time the body of Mr Frassati has visited Australia.
You’ll never guess.
